Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg took to the stage of the F8 developer conference and spoke to the public about the direction Instagram will be taking in the near future.
One of the changes we’ll see is a redesigned camera that they will be calling Create Mode – this particular mode will allow the users to basically build up a post from nothing, without having to upload a pre-existing photo or video. You can think about it as being able to post in a Snapchat-like style.
Another change is dedicated strictly to artists or celebrities and even influencers: it will allow them to tag any article of clothing they are wearing with a dedicated shopping tag that will allow their followers to buy the item right then and there, without having to switch apps.
According to the announcement, Instagram will not take cuts out of the revenue, instead it will require the creators to use the Instagram Checkout feature, which is still in beta, that will feature a selling fee.
For the time being, the platform will be testing out the feature “with a small group of creators” as of next week but other details, such as access to the feature and availability are still unclear.
In addition to these features, Instagram will also be launching a donation sticker for the Stories section that will allow people to raise money for non-profits directly from within the app. According to the announcement, 100% of the money gathered will go towards the nonprofit the users have chosen.
