Even though Zoom has deployed end-to-end encryption and has taken steps to prevent Zoom hijacking, incidents still occur.
A virtual event with Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller was canceled last Thursday due to “porn bombing” the Zoom call.
“We were a victim of a teleconference or Zoom hijacking and we are trying to understand what we need to do going forward to prevent this from ever happening again. It is an incident we deeply regret,” said Brent Tjarks, executive director of the Mid-Size Bank Coalition of America (MBCA), as quoted by Reuters.
The conference, with more than 220 participants, was quickly canceled after it was hijacked.
“A few minutes before the event was to start, one participant using the screen name “Dan” began displaying graphic, pornographic images,” reports Reuters.
So-called Zoom bombs are usually funny ways to disrupt conference calls and involve a participant, whether they were invited or managed to gain an access link, take the microphone to show inappropriate images to the rest of the event participants.
