Fortnite Acknowledges It Took Inspiration from Among Us in Impostors

PC: Innersloth

As spotted by VGC, Epic Games finally acknowledged it took inspiration from Among Us in their Imposters game mode.

In patch notes released for the newest update of Fortnite, the team at Epic Games outlined the changes and additions made to the entire game as well as to Impostors. A short line at the beginning of the Impostors update section stated “v18.20 brings improvements to Impostors, the game mode inspired by Among Us from Innersloth.”

However, the changes made to the game mode only include a Role Bias and Voice Chat feature. There are still ostensibly no references in-game to Among Us or any collaboration with Innersloth.

While acknowledgment in the patch notes is nice, it comes months after the game mode originally released. Also few people read the patch notes, meaning the acknowledgement may not reach many.

Previously, the Among Us developers have previously called out the blatant plagiarism. They have noted that Impostor’s map design is overall the same of the Among Us Skeld map. Additionally, some of the naming and content in the game are drawn almost directly from Innersloth’s hit title.

Epic Game’s copied (without collaboration) the game’s mechanics while it has been immensely popular. This is all while it sues Apple and Google, touting itself as a champion for a healthy gaming industry and the small developers.
