Genesis revealed the ‘Mint’ concept car at the New York Auto Show yesterday and introduced it as an electric car fit for the city but focused on delivering a luxury experience.
“As a brand, Genesis embraces progressive design values, and the Mint Concept reinforces this commitment from a previously undiscovered perspective,” Manfred Fitzgerald, Executive Vice President and Global Head of the Genesis Brand has said “Mint belongs in the city, and we are proud to introduce our evolution of the ideal city car in New York.”
According to Genesis, the vehicle’s battery can deliver 200 miles per charge and offer 350kW quick charging but other than that, the company kept it pretty light on the specs, considering the car, at least for now, is nothing but an exercise in design.
The Mint has a low roof and a wide stance, which gives it a pretty sporty look and, thanks to its electric nature, it features no visible grille and no tailpipe, which does nothing but add to the futuristic effect the car’s smooth lines exude.
It has only two seats but plenty of space to shuffle around, though in the place of the backseat we can notice that Genesis opted for a compact shelf instead, which can be used to place cargo in. To access it, the designers opted for scissor-style doors.
The interior is leather – leather everywhere, from the seats to the retro-futuristic-looking steering wheel, flanked by oversized typewriter-like buttons that will allow the driver to answer or make calls, navigate and access other of the vehicle’s features.
“The interior styling of the Mint Concept takes influence from the Korean tradition of embracing the empty space, as well as modern European furniture design”
Luc Donckerwolke, Executive Vice President and Chief Design Officer of Hyundai Motor Group
The car features large windows to the sides and above, allowing light in and making the car look even more spacious than it perhaps actually is.
Unfortunately, as it often happens with concept vehicles, Genesis has no plans to bring the car to production.
