In a post on PlayStation.Blog, Communications Manager at Sucker Punch Productions Andrew Goldfarb announced Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut.
Ghost of Tsushima released almost a year ago to universal critical acclaim. The game brought out the best of PlayStation 4 generation – incredible visuals, immersive story-telling, and smooth fighting mechanics. The Director’s Cut will only make things better, providing all new adventures taking advantage of the PlayStation 5 DualSense and SSD for PS5 owners.
When it comes to the former, players will be taken to Iki Island, a territory neighboring Tsushima, after protagonist Jin hears rumors of Mongol invaders. But as he arrives “he finds himself caught up in events with deeply personal stakes that will force him to relive some traumatic moments from his past.”
Although few details are given on these story elements, Goldfarb has confirmed that there will be new story, characters, environments, mini-games, techniques, enemy types, and more.
PlayStation 5 users will get the added benefit of the console. Most significantly, Director’s Cut will take advantage of the DualSense’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. While the implementation of the former is unknown, the latter will likely be used at least when fighting with a bow & arrow. Additional upgrades include Japanese lip sync (thanks to better rendering power), 3D audio upgrades, quicker load times, resolution options, and targeted 60 fps.
All users will get some additional quality of life upgrades, including “alternate controller layouts, as well as the option to enable a target lock-on during combat.” All Ghost of Tsushima: Legends content will also come free of charge.
Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut will be available August 20th for $69.99 on PS5 and $59.99 on PS4. Upgrade options are available for those who own Ghost of Tsushima on PS4 ($19.99 to upgrade to the PS4 version of Director’s Cut and $29.99 to the PS5 version) and for those who buy the PS4 version of Director’s Cut and want to upgrade to the PS5 version ($9.99).
