According to a PlayStation.Blog post, Santa Monic Studio’s masterpiece God of War (2018) will release on PC January 14th, 2022.
God of War (2018) is Kratos’ latest journey where he and his son Atreus travel throughout Midgard to release the ashes of Atreus’s deceased mother at the highest point of the nine realms. The game reimagines the series, taking a stronger narrative approach with a deeper sense of character growth as Kratos and Atreus grow together.
While the game will be fundamentally the same as on console, the port to PC will enable players to experience the vast worlds in breathtaking quality. Options for true 4K resolution and unlocked framerates will be available on supported devices. Additionally, there will be graphical refinement options, like for shadows or enhancements to ambient occlusion, as well as 21:9 ultra-widescreen support.
The game will also support multiple controllers and keyboard mapping customization. DualShock 4 and DualSense controllers will also be compatible.
God of War (2018) will be the latest first-party PlayStation game heading to PC. Horizon Zero Dawn and Death Stranding were the first two major games announced for a PC port, with Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection also coming to PC.
This slow move of PlayStation’s big first-party titles from console to PC is likely part of the company’s larger plans to expand the reach of its games (and earn more profit). With 19.5 million copies sold on console alone, a PC release would surely expand the target demographic. PlayStation even acquired Nixxes recently for PlayStation Studio, the company known for developing PC ports of console games.
The God of War (2018) PC version will release January 14th, 2022.
