Advertising on YouTube has been going on since forever, and it’s only natural for creators to start selling products through the platform as well. At the moment, some creators just put a link for their products in the description, but wouldn’t it be much easier if the link appeared on the screen?
According to Bloomberg, Google is working on a shopping tool for YouTube, trying to monetize the content even more. This would make it simpler for creators to link to products directly in videos. The tech giant told Bloomberg that it is testing out a way for creators to tag products in videos at the moment, but it wouldn’t give any more details on the whole process.
With many people going on Youtube to see reviews of products before making a purchase, this new feature would make life so much easier. But advertising has become more and more annoying on Youtube unless you have a Premium account. Perhaps YouTube Shopping could reduce the platform’s reliance on ads and make them less in-your-face.
Google has been putting a lot of effort recently into developing new features for YouTube and YouTube Music. The platform has 2 billion logged-in monthly users, and many more regular visitors. The company probably feels there is more money to make out of the largest video sharing platform in the world.
