Huawei and Leica go way back, their partnership having started 4 years ago. Back then, in 2016, Leica’s camera technology was first integrated on the Huawei P9 smartphone.
Leica’s technology significantly improved the overall quality of the products, placing Huawei’s flagship on the top of the list in terms of high-end camera capabilities for smartphones.
Only recently, a rumor that Huawei and Leica’s partnership has come to an end was launched by leakster Digital Chat Station who believe the two companies’ collab has expired and it won’t be renewed, also mentioning that others brands have already reached the company for collaboration.
However, it wasn’t long until the rumor was busted, as a Huawei spokesperson said the rumor is “absolutely fake news”. On the other side, an Android Authority report says Leica has stated it “has no information about the termination of the relationship”.
It looks like Leica will continue to provide Huawei with the best camera setups on the market and the latest smartphone to benefit from its most capable camera system to date is Mate 40 Pro.
Back in 2016, the two players , the companies announced they were joining efforts in a “co-operation with shared premium ambitions and spirit, which will see both technology and photography brands combining their shared ethos in a long-term commitment to the art of craftsmanship, meticulous engineering and the spirit of winning collaboration, to create a powerhouse in the reinvention of smartphone photography”.
