China just threw Apple an unexpected, metaphorical punch. Authorities shut down iBookstore and iTunes Movies, to the dismay of the company.
Six months after launching the services in the region, China’s State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film, and Television took the decision to close them, without giving a public explanation. The only fully functional service remaining is Apple Music – for now.
Apple spokesman assured everyone they are doing their best to remedy the situation, especially since China is their second-biggest market and major financial source.
Maybe it’s a matter of destroying competition for the Chinese government but for now Apple Pay is still running, so we will have to wait and see what is the exact reason for the unexpected decision.
