IFA 2017 is in full swing in Berlin. The annual event has begun with several exciting announcements for smartphone users as well as mixed reality fans. One of them is ASUS announcement of its mixed reality headset for Windows, one of the lightest head gears around, but not the cheapest #realitymagic
You don’t need more than a glance to see that the ASUS Windows Mixed Reality Headset is good-looking. It’s probably one of the coolest headsets at the moment, all black with a rumpled vibe.
It’s also as comfortable as it looks, since it doesn’t weight more than 400 grams (0.9 pounds) and sanitary. Yes, finally one company thought about the danger sharing a headset for a long period of time presents for any user’s skin. So, the gear has antibacterial protection from the get-go.
As for the tech, well, ASUS’ MR headset has 1,440 x 1,440 resolution in each eyepiece, with a 90Hz refresh rate. It doesn’t use sensors for six-degree tracking but it does have two cameras and LEDs on the accompanying motion controllers.
The sleek design and comfortable fit are the main reasons why ASUS is being brave this time and selling the headset at a hefty price. In Europe, the reality gear will hit the market at €449 (which is about $535). That’s significantly more than Dell Visor, the other headset that is being released this year with Windows support.
