Ikea Launches The Symfonisk Picture Frame Speaker

IKEA just advertised its latest collaboration with Sonos – the Symfonisk Picture Frame speaker.

Only a few inches deep, the flat speaker looks like a piece of art, and will be available for purchase starting on July 15th.

The best thing about the “picture frame with Wi-Fi speaker” is the fact that it looks like a piece of artwork and it’s designed to enable you to place speakers in a position where you otherwise couldn’t establish an audio source. The device is quite large and can be installed on a wall, and you can secure a second speaker into the first, so you only need to use one plug.

According to Sonos, the biggest challenge in designing this device was to generate room-filling sound in a product that will be located differently than traditional speakers.

The speaker arrives in two color variants, black or white, featuring a demountable acoustic panel with a geometric design resembling a series of triangles interconnected.

The first device of the kind was the IKEA Symfonisk Bookshelf Speaker, followed by Symfonisk Table Lamp – a speaker and a light in one. The Symfonisk Picture Frame speaker is the third collaboration between Sonos and IKEA. The company’s representatives suggested the possibility that other panel designs will be available in the future.
