It started as a social network squarely focused on photography but, as time went on, Instagram mutated into quite the quirky behemoth.
Now, the app is getting voice messaging as a feature, something that will probably be helpful to all those using it as an alternative to Tinder.
The company made the announcement on Twitter, encouraging users to “talk the way you want to be heard, whether by whispering what you’re up to or shouting a compliment.”

To send an audio message in Instagram direct messages tap the messaging icon, hold the phone to your ear, speak after the beep and hit the send icon. You can also basically do the same trick as in the Facebook Messenger app, tapping then holding the microphone icon. If you’re unhappy with what you said, slide your finger to the left and the recording will be deleted. However, note that once you raise your finger, the audio message will be sent (which seems like a recipe for disaster.)
Voice messaging on Instagram is a bit late to the party, as apps like Messenger, Snapchat and iMessage had it for quite some time, but no one ever complained about too many features, have they?
