How much time do you spend on Instagram? You can find that out using the new native tools or you could simply conclude “way too much”. Even that amount of time could get exponentially bigger as Instagram is planning to have one hour long videos on its platform.
According to a Wall Street Journal report, Instagram is set to ditch the 1-minute video limit and allow users to post long-form videos of up to one hour. However, the focus will still be on vertical videos, so don’t expect Instagram to become the next Youtube.
The same report reveals that Instagram took this decision after talks with content creators and publishers. It makes sense, as content creators are increasingly dissatisfied with Youtube’s algorithm and Adsense revenue.
While Youtube’s audience is still mainly comprised of teens, who consider it one of the best online platforms out there, Instagram’s push for longer videos could make them spend more time in the app.
Right now, Instagram Stories are capped at 15 seconds. There are no reports indicating a change coming up soon on that front.
