Instagram Starts Targeting Fake Followers, Likes and Comments

instagram removes fake likes comments users

Instagram has recently announced that they are taking steps to delete and prevent fake likes and follows via accounts that use third-party services. All the accounts that have been flagged as violating the platform’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Use will be warned or removed.

“Starting today, we will begin removing inauthentic likes, follows and comments from accounts that use third-party apps to boost their popularity. We’ve built machine learning tools to help identify accounts that use these services and remove the inauthentic activity. This type of behavior is bad for the community, and third-party apps that generate inauthentic likes, follows and comments violate our Community Guidelines and Terms of Use.”

Any of the accounts that are identified as using third-party apps in order to get more popular will receive a notification from Instagram that the fake likes have been removed.

Instagram also acknowledges there might be some instances where some users might have shared their login credentials with a third-party app without them realizing they were doing that so the users will also be asked to change their password, in case those third-party apps have been compromising the security of their account.

Most of the accounts expected to suffer from the blow belong to influencers or various brands out there who have been pushing for popularity.

Instagram will begin to roll out these measures in the coming weeks.
