iPhone 8 Rumored To Feature Rear-Facing 3D Laser For AR Applications

This year, Apple has really started to focus on AR software and products. ARkit is the most suggestive sign of that turn in their business but it’s not going to be the only one. iPhone 8, their 10th Anniversary smartphone, is set to feature hardware that will help users take advantage of augmented reality content #mobilemagic

According to Fast Company, Apple will equip this fall’s iPhone 8 with a rear-facing 3D sensor. This tech will enhance the camera’s abilities, helping with AR applications that need advanced depth detection. The company is rumored to choose the VSCEL laser system to accomplish that. The laser’s purpose is to send beams of light that bounce off objects, detecting the depth of every item. In return, this will enhance AR experiences and increase the precision of apps created with ARkit.

Moreover, the technology will enhance basic camera tech. The 3D system will surely provide more accuracy for autofocus. Will this addition stall the release of iPhone 8? We hope not. So far, Apple hasn’t made any comment that would lead us to believe a delay is in order, so a September launch is still in the cards.

As you recall, this fall, Apple will release a very different smartphone than the ones we are used to. iPhone 8 will be almost bezel-free, with the exception of the FaceTime camera and speaker. The display is set to measure 5.8-inches, with a vertical dual camera on the back. The body will be almost completely made of glass, with the exception of the aluminum frame.

Check out how it will compare to the present iPhone 7 here!
