A leaked image of the Apple iPhone SE2 in March pointed towards a budget smartphone with an aluminum chassis with no headphone jack. Well, now we have a contradicting rumor. Based on leaked images, the iPhone SE2 might actually come with a glass back and a headphone jack!
If this is true, it marks both an alignment with and a departure from current iPhone trends. The glass back likely means Apple wants to provide wireless charging for the device, just like that offered with the iPhone 8 and iPhone X. Wireless charging would bring a much loved and new technology to this budget model.
However, the headphone jack would be departure from those devices as both removed the headphone jack to make room for AirPods. A much missed piece of hardware, the headphone jack could be returning because Apple sees the iPhone SE2 as its budget offering and assumes that users who buy it aren’t comfortable spending extra on a pair of wireless buds.
From what we could tell, the front of the new iPhone will look just like its predecessor – same Touch ID sensor and selfie shooter layout.
The earliest we can expect this smartphone would be June at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). If not, we could see it in the fall, but fall is normally reserved for new and flagship launches.
We’ll be sure to cover the event, so stay tuned to find out if all these rumors come true!
