If your work phone is a brand new Apple device, your boss might be watching your every move.

Before you use the iPhone for every private business you have, messaging, sharing photos and gossiping about the nasty habits of your employer, you should think about the risks – your activity might be monitored. You can’t ask your boss directly whether that’s true or not, so that’s why in the next version of iPhone’s operating system,  iOS 9.3 , a message will alert you on the matter.

In beta testing, a notification will appear both on the lock screen and in the About section. The general text sounds like this: “This iPhone is managed by your organisation”. To find out what does that mean, you can go to the About section, where Apple explains that your Internet traffic and device location can be seen by others.

Were old iPhones under the same scrutiny? Not at all. Here, we’re talking about smartphones set up through the company’s Device Enrollment Program, that facilitates communication between employer and employees that were given, upon hiring, Mac or iOS devices. Since they’re not your property on paper, the owner (your boss) will upgrade, manage and supervise them as he pleases.
