One of the most popular productivity tools for businesses both big and small, the Google G Suite, was just rebranded at Google Workspace.
If your company uses Google’s tools like GMail, Drive, Meet, Sheets or Docs, you’ll now find them under a new name – Google Workspace.
Originally launched in 2016, the G Suite is a popular alternative to Microsoft 365 and, with the sudden shift to remote working that happened this year, it got even more famous, with 6 million businesses relying on it.
Why the change?
Apparently, so you don’t forget you’re using Google.
“By selecting Google Workspace, we get the brand association with Google, which is really important to us,” said Javier Soltero, Google’s VP, as quoted by TechCrunch.
However, there are functionality changes as well, not just branding ones.
Google revealed new integrations for the Meet, Rooms and Chat. Now, they can all be accessed from Gmail.
You will be able to edit and create documents with guests in Chat rooms and even summon co-workers – if you type @someone in a Doc, Sheets or Slides document, Google will show you their contact details and prompt you to email or start chatting with them.
TechCrunch also reports that the pricing for Google Workspace will remain the same, starting at $6 per month per user.
You can see all of the changes on Google’s new website dedicated to the service.
