Lenovo debuted at IFA 2019 its latest smart home item, the Smart Display 7, a direct competitor to the Nest Hub from Google.
In design, it does look strikingly similar, but manages to carry a smaller footprint, something that will definitely catch on in kitchens with less counter space.
The Smart Display 7 bets heavy on Google Assistant and also includes a 2MP wide-angle camera, something that the Nest Hub does not.
To address privacy concerns, the camera can be shuttered with a physical slider when you’re not using it for video calls.
“Lenovo Smart Display 7 now sports thinner bezels as well as an ambient light sensor for better, more realistic photos. And in response to customer feedback, we’ve added front-facing left and right speakers for stereo separation, housed in a larger chamber to deliver more audio resonance,” says Lenovo about what the new smart display as to offer.
You can expect to see it in stores and online starting this October with an $129.99 price tag. While the other smart home announcement from Lenovo at IFA, the Smart Clock, does look pretty, this is undoubtedly the better deal when looking at features.
It’s also $100 cheaper than Google’s Nest Hub Max, so that will definitely help it reach more homes.
