LG Supplies E-Mart With Robotic Shopping Carts

LG Electronics

LG Electronics partnered up with South Korean retail giant E-Mart in order to bring robots into the popular retailer’s stores.

The development will be a joint effort from the two companies but it will be primarily led by LG Electronics’ Robotics Research Institute which has also been supplying the Incheon International Airport with guide robots.

The store robots will be able to identify obstacles automatically and follow the shoppers as they make their way through the isles, eliminating the need to push the carts.

The shoppers will also be able to keep an eye on their shopping list because the robot carts will have a built-in barcode scanner and a display. The display will also help the users find the products they need by entering a request via the future companion app.

LG has been steadily getting more involved in its AI platform and has, so far, brought to the market robots that can cut the grass, clean floors, bring food and beverages and carry hotel room luggage.
