Lush Replaces Plastic Packaging With Clever App

It’s no longer a secret that cosmetics based company Lush is very active in supporting global causes, dedicated to wildlife protection and LGBTQ+ rights. Now, Lush is taking it to the next level by using their own LushLens app.

AI and machine learning-based, the Lush Lens app aims to help in creating a sustainable future, without plastic packaging. The app can scan Lush products to display their properties, and their effect on your skin and mood, all these within a few clicks.

The amazing app could be tested this Spring, during SXSW. The pop-up store had walls filled with the beloved bath bombs, and other favorite products, but no packaging and labels. Instead, attendees were required to use their phones and the Lush Lens app to scan them and get the information.

Things like price, ingredients and even videos of what the bath bombs looks like when submerged in water appear the second the app is accessed.

In the last three years, Lush was helped to become more tech-friendly by their teams from Lush Digital. Among the things they are playing with are 3D printing, artificial intelligence, image recognition and augmented reality.

Lush is set to showcase the tech again soon, at the TNW Conference, and will roll out sometime soon with new shopping features and reviews.
