Microsoft just announced the launch of its popular console game subscription service, Xbox Game Pass, for PC.
We already know that some of its Xbox games in Game Pass work on PC. Thanks to the company’s Play Anywhere initiative, just any PC game part of Game Pass can be played on Windows or Xbox.
Now though, the company is planning to launch a brand new version of the subscription for Windows, consisting of about 100 games from more than 75 developers!
For the moment, there are no more than 20 of the games available through the Xbox Game Pass that can be played on PC, so there will be dozens of new developers to support and help grow this new version of subscription.
“Two years ago, we launched Xbox Game Pass on Xbox One, and since then we’ve seen how valuable a curated library of high-quality games can be for players and game developers alike,” said Xbox chief Phil Spencer.
“We researched whether a similar opportunity exists for PC players and PC game developers, and we believe that it does. We also considered the importance of bringing something new and additive to the PC gaming ecosystem, and we believe that we can. So, we designed a service specifically for the needs of PC gamers and PC game developers. It’s called Xbox Game Pass, just like the original, but it’s a new experience that we are building together with the PC community.”
There is no information available regarding the subscription’s cost or the titles that will be made available. Also, Microsoft says it will come back with details about the PC-specific version of Game Pass at E3.
What we do know is that subscribers will get all the perks that current Xbox Game Pass members have with Xbox Live through the Microsoft Store. Additionally, they get 20 percent off the price of games in the library, if they want to purchase the title to play on a longer period of time.
