As soon as it came around, the Windows 10 Build 1809 got off on the wrong foot with the Windows users: both Reddit as well as Microsoft’s official forums have been flooded with messages stating the the update was causing them to lose their files or downright deleting their user profiles.
The update is not affecting everyone though and, at the moment, no one has figured out if the update follows a pattern of sorts or if it targets specific systems. It was also one of the reasons why the problem was not initially flagged. The beta testers for the Microsoft Feedback Hub for Windows Insider could not pin down the root issue and the bug reports also seemed to lack in detail to begin with.
The reports have been piling up since October 2nd, but it’s only now that Microsoft said something about it and stopped the rollout before the update went live.
We have paused the roll-out of the Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809) for all users as we investigate isolated reports of users missing some files after updating.
Even so, it makes you wonder why a system update has any business going through a user’s documents in the first place, doesn’t it? Microsoft has, so far, only told the users that the update has been stalled but has not offered any explanations regarding the issue at all.
At the moment, everyone who has downloaded the October update is encouraged to not install it and wait for a while until Microsoft will return with a fix.
