Back in November 2021, a rumor was floating around about Motorola releasing a smartphone with a 200MP camera – while it was an intriguing idea, nobody gave it much thought, at least until today, when the entire data sheet of the device hosting this camera has been leaked.
The specs sheet was released by TechnikNews and, according to them, the new device will be named Frontier.
It will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen1 chipset under the hood, or another Qualcomm SoC produced with a 4nm process – rumor has it it will actually turn out to be the chipset with model number SM8475, allegedly the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen2.
Apparently, Motorola will opt for TSMC’s 4nm process, if it goes for a new Soc, not Samsung’s, as TSMC’s is more energy-efficient.
Of course, the star of the show is the 200MP Samsung S5KHP1 camera sensor, which will come accompanied by a 50MP Samsung S5KJN1SQ03 ultra-wide-angle sensor and a 12MP Sony IMX663 telephoto lens.
To top it all off, a 60MP OmniVision OV60A selfie snapper will also make an appearance, the same one we’ve seen on Motorola Edge X30.
The front camera will use the ‘Always On Feature’ of the Snapdragon 8 Gen1, which automatically detects if the user is watching and can automatically lock the screen. This hides the message banners automatically from view and, of course, can prevent others from seeing what’s on your screen.
The device will have a 6.67-inch OLED display with FullHD + resolution and 144Hz refresh rate, 8/12 GB of RAM and 128/256 GB of internal storage.
The report does not mention the battery capacity but it might have 125W fast charging capability and 50W wireless charging.
It will work on Android 12 out of the box and it’s estimated that the device will make an appearance sometime in Q3 but again, this is just speculation.
Even with the release of this somewhat detailed spec sheet, we need to take the info with the proverbial grain of salt until we hear from more reliable leaksters.
