It was recently reported the Netflix had hired gaming industry veteran Mike Verdu. Verdu, with experience at EA, Facebook, and Zynga was reported to help the company expand its products into the gaming sector. These reports have been confirmed by Netflix recently.
As reported by CNET, Netflix co-CEO Reed Hastings confirmed the expansion into gaming. Part of this goal was to, in the long term, build up its gaming service large enough to pursue games traditionally console exclusive like those on Xbox or PlayStation.
One time Netflix did commit to for the time being, though, was that gaming would not come with a new way to charge its users. The current “all-in-one subscription… will include games.”
Nintendo Life reports that Netflix plans to first start with mobile games.
It is still unclear how this will all work with its current service. However, we are sure to receive more information as the company figures out its own plans.
