Wondering what Breath of the Wild 2’s actual title is? So are we. But Nintendo is apparently purposely being tight-lipped about it.
According to a report by IGN, Nintendo has avoided talking about the name in order to prevent players from clueing into story or thematic elements. In an interview with Nintendo Treehouse’s Bill Trinen and Nate Bihldorff, the two told IGN that “Zelda names are kind of important… those subtitles… they start to give little bits of hints about maybe what’s going to happen.”
In retrospect, this has largely been true with past Zelda title. Minish Cap hinted at the game’s shrinking mechanics and Twilight Princess points to the parallel Twilight realm and Midna’s secret. While looking at the title without context of the game, it might be difficult to tell the meaning, but as Trinen and Bihldorff mention, they do provide little hints.
The team has officially been calling the game “the sequel to Breath of the Wild” given that Breath of the Wild speaks directly to the game’s atmosphere.
Whenever Nintendo feels ready to give us the official name, it’s sure to be hype.
