OnePlus is lacking a key feature for modern smartphones, which is QI wireless charging but this seems to be coming to an end.
Mobilescout reports the Chinese manufacturer has been spotted joining the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), the standards group managing the Qi wireless charging used by every single smartphone out there.
The absence of this feature has been holding back OnePlus from keeping up with other smartphones, even if the product has been getting better.
OnePlus CEO, Pete Lau, has said in the past that even 10W fast wireless charging was too slow and “not worth it” compared to the wired fast-charging Warp Charge that OnePlus currently uses.
With this latest news, we can expect the high-end OnePlus 8 Pro model to receive the feature later this year.
