Pikmin Bloom Adds Pikmin To Your Daily Walks

In partnership with Niantic, Nintendo has announced a new AR game called Pikmin Bloom.

With Pikmin Bloom, users can walk around the world with Pikmin by their side. Walking with Pikmin lets flowers bloom around the world and as you walk more, you find Pikmin seedlings to grow.

As Niantic Founder & CEO John Hanke notes, the company’s mission with Pikmin Bloom is to “inspire people to go outside, explore their neighborhoods, and have fun at the same time… we think Pikmin are the perfect creatures to help [get more people to walk].”

The game is available now on the App Store and Google Play.

Pokémon GO, Niantic’s other game with Nintendo, seemed to have more content like catching Pokémon, battling other players, going on raids together, and fighting gyms. As of now, Pikmin Bloom appears to be a glorified pedometer.

It is unclear what the direction of the AR experience will be beyond these elements. Regardless, this collaboration could point to Nintendo further expanding into the AR space with its IPs.
