Amazon might be promising to reinvent supermarkets with intelligent, incredibly convenient self-checkout kiosks but the giant still has to deal with human creativity when it comes to cheating systems.
Some people might lie to the self-checkout system to get a more expensive type of apple at the price of the cheapest fruit but this French man took it to the next level.
A case reported by L’Est Républicain revealed a 19-year-old man being convicted of passing off a Playstation 4 console at a supermarket as fruit. The stunt allowed him to pay just 9.29 euros ($11) for a device that retails at over $300.
It’s a move most customers would not try, as the chances of success seem low, but that didn’t discourage the young man. The win wasn’t enough for the 19-year old, who tried to do the same thing again.
The second time the perpetrator went to the supermarket to try to pass off a PS4 as fruit in the check-out lanes, the authorities were waiting to catch him in the act.
According to the report, he had sold the first console for 100 euros and wanted to buy a ticket to Nice with the second sell.
Unfortunately, he had to say “bon voyage” to his nice plans, as a judge sentenced him to 4 months of jail time.
