While most were expecting confirmation of the Snapdragon 1000 at MWC Shanghai, Qualcomm decided to go the other way around and announced three new Snapdragon chipsets designed for budget smartphones.

The headliner is the octa-core Snapdragon 632 that’s up to four times more powerful than the Snapdragon 626, supporting 4K video capture, two 13 MP rear cameras, FHD+ displays and LTE Advanced. Of course, it also comes with AI processing that will handle facial unlocking and object recognition.
The other newly announced models are the Snapdragon 429 and Snapdragon 439, both of them promising to bring up to 25% more power than the previous chipsets in their range, the Snapdragon 425 and 430.
You’ll soon find Snapdragon 439 in smartphones with 1080p resolutions and a single up to 21 MP camera or a dual rear camera with 8 MP.
The Snapdragon 429 will only support a screen resolution of up to 720p alongside a single 16 MP camera or dual 8 MP rear cameras, so expect to see it show up in smartphones under $250.

However, Qualcomm underlined that both of these chipsets come with “artificial intelligence capabilities that enhance the camera, voice, and security experience.” It’s nice to see that the company is committed to providing the same perks even to those consumers looking for lower-priced devices!
