Qualcomm has a great surprise for those looking for a deal: it revealed Snapdragon 675, a new, mid-range smartphone SoC. Don’t let the mid-range tag fool you, the Snapdragon 675 brings high-end features like support for triple camera setups. That means 2019 will bring a lot more affordable smartphones with three cameras on the back.
If you look at the Snapdragon 675 specs, with two 2.0 GHz core alongside six, power-efficient 1.78 GHz cores, you’ll realize that this chipset can outperform the older, yet pricier Snapdragon 710. It also supports the Quick Charge 4+ standard and promises a “multi-core AI Engine [..] engineered to deliver up to 50% overall improvements in AI applications.”
Qualcomm says that the Snapdragon 675 is already available for developers and consumers should see the first smartphones using it in the first quarter of 2019. If you were looking for a midrange smartphone this holiday season, it might pay off to wait a bit more.
