Last week we reported that RED Hydrogen One finally passed FCC certification and could be here soon. Today, we know exactly when to expect the smartphone with the most exciting display of the year.
Those most excited to see 3D images changing depending on their viewing angle will have to try to get their hands on a developer version of the Hydrogen One. RED’s head Jim Jannard explained how to do it in a blog post that details the roadmap:
“August 31st thru September 11th. This is the release date for the Houdini Developer’s Model. There will be an event at RED Studios Hollywood to kick off delivery of this program on August 31st. Quantities for Houdini are EXTREMELY Limited. I guarantee there will not be enough slots for all that want to jump in so read carefully and then email as soon as you can if you want in. 1st come 1st serve.”
In short, if you can’t wait and really want the Hydrogen One this summer (which was the expected launch date), you’ll have to pre-order the developer pre-release model Houdini or change your existing pre-order.
If you want the consumer Hydrogen One to play with, you will have to pre-order and wait for the basic phone version to start shipping on October 9. Carriers like Verizon, AT&T and Telcel will get the aluminum version later, on November 2, while the gorgeous titanium version will show up in stores at an undisclosed 2019 date.
