Ricoh GR III Debuts at Photokina 2018, Brings Much Needed Improvements

Considered by some the best compact camera around, the Ricoh GR II was just upgraded to a III model, after eight years on the market.

Debuting at Photokina 2018, the Ricoh GR III is dubbed the “ultimate snapshot camera”, a label that, once you look at the specs, seems pretty accurate.

The previous model, the Ricoh GR II, became a street photography darling with a 16 MP sensor and a f/2.8 lens. The GRIII builds on that legacy with a 24 MP resolution, coupled with hybrid autofocus and video recording in 1080p at 60,30 or 24 FPS.

The f/2.8 lens with a fixed focal length equivalent to 28mm received a redesign as well, so don’t worry: the Ricoh GR III compact camera might look like the GR II but it did receive some serious upgrades.

There’s also a USB-C port for more convenient connectivity.

What we don’t know is the actual price. Ricoh only said the GR III is still in development and will show up in 2019.
