We already knew this, since some sharp eyes spotted the feature buried in Snapchat’s Android app, but it is nice to receive a confirmation. The Snapchat camera will indeed let you shop on Amazon using the Visual Search feature.
The feature leaked back in July and it took some time for Snapchat to make an official announcement which explains how this is going to work.
“It’s super easy to use. Simply point your Snapchat camera at a physical product or barcode, and press and hold on the camera screen to get started.
When the item or barcode is recognized, an Amazon card will appear on-screen, surfacing a link for that product or similar ones available on Amazon. Tap your selection to visit the Amazon App (if you have it installed on your phone) or Amazon.com, where you can complete your purchase or keep browsing,” said Snap in the announcement.
The Snapchat Visual Search feature is currently in tests and Snap says they’re going to be rolling it out “slowly”.
Let’s see if this update turns the tide for Snapchat, which, according to reports, has been slowly losing its fan base. The ability to find out what 🔥kicks someone was wearing when they walked past you does seem amazing.
