Snapchat really wants to make some more money and fortunately (this time!) it will do so through a feature that also benefits users. Spotted in the code for Snapchat’s Android app is the “Visual Search” feature that allows you to “Press and hold to identify an object, song, barcode, and more! This works by sending data to Amazon, Shazam, and other partners.”
Once you scan the object or the barcode in question, you’ll be able to quickly navigate to Amazon for all the results. As TechCrunch pointed out, if Snap makes a deal with Amazon to get a portion of the generated sales, this could provide a boon for the financially-troubled company. Last quarter, Snap Inc. posted a $385 million loss.
