Samsung just announced that they’re teaming up with Mastercard to launch a biometric credit card that “will add speed, security and safety with contact-less authentications”.
Forget using PIN pads, because these new cards work in an entirely new way.
The new Samsung cards will have several chips embedded into them, so all you need to do is to use your thumb on the card to authorize payment.
For those concerned about storing their biometric information like fingerprints with Samsung, the company dedicated part of the press release assuaging those fears.
“As consumers embrace the safety and convenience of contactless payments, Mastercard will leverage its cybersecurity and intelligence expertise and global payments network in this three-way partnership to enhance cardholder security with a biometric solution supporting fast, frictionless payment experiences that are protected at every point”.
The Samsung Card will debut in South Korea later this year.
Right now, there’s no word if this is going to expand in other territories.
