As much as we love the Infinity Display on Samsung Galaxy S8, we’re treading lightly around it. The truth is the phone’s glass back and fragile display are prone to cracks as previous tests showed. So, we’re relieved to tell you that Samsung has just put up for pre-orders the more rugged version of the device, Samsung Galaxy S8 Active #mobilemagic
Two months ago, the first rumors surrounding the Galaxy S8 Active appeared online. As with other flagships, the South Korean manufacturer was believed to release a more durable version of the S8, one that would withstand water, dust, shock and shatter. Back then, we were sure of one thing – it would not come with the famous Infinity Display.
Now, as the company is putting it up for sale, we can give you more information. The screen of the Active version is 5.8-inches with the same 18.5:9 aspect ratio. That said, it is flat (unlike the regular S8) and harbors a 2K Super AMOLED display. To make it more resistant to shatter, Samsung gave it a metal frame and polycarbonate back, along with military certification.
Hardware and software have remained the same for the most part, with one difference: the battery. S8 Active comes with a larger 4,000 mAh cell. Bixby is also available, straight out of the box and users will have quicker access to things they might need in the wild: a stopwatch, barometer, compass, and flashlight.
Samsung’s new Active smartphone will come in two colors, Meteor Gray or Titanium Gold. You’ll be able to buy it from At&T at $28.34 per month for 30 months. That translates to a total price of $850. Sure, there are other deals you can strike with AT&T, like the one where they can shave off $200 of the price if you trade in a different phone. It’s up to you to see which options is more convenient.
