WeChat joined forces with InterContinental in order to open up a hotel in Shanghai where the users can not only book rooms but also remotely check-in and use their phones instead of key cards without ever having to deal with a human intermediary. All of it done just by pressing a few buttons on the WeChat app.

The travelers will have their identity verified through facial recognition and once that is done, they will be able to collect their digital key card.

Also, the hotel is 88 feet underground but it’s perfectly capable of providing internet services.

That’s not the only thing it can do though – via WeChat, you will also be able to order room service, make payments and adjust your room to your needs by setting the air conditioning and the lighting just the way you like it.

You can even scan your face at the dining area in order for you to grab your breakfast voucher, which is included within the app.

If you do have the money to afford it, you can book an executive suite that comes with a 24-hour butler service which can be called, of course, via WeChat.

We’re looking forward to hearing about people’s experiences in the hotel – would you go or do you prefer more human interaction?
