Just a few hours ago, SpaceX has beaten its own best record of 10 successful missions in a year. Today, SpaceX completed its 18th mission of 2017, one designed to deliver 10 Iridium NEXT satellites to low Earth orbit via a Falcon 9.
It’s the fourth collaboration between SpaceX and Iridium, the first one taking place just at the beginning of this year. There was also another mission in October that launched 10 new satellites.
The Falcon 9 rocket took off from the Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. The launch brings us a few spectacular images captured by the residents of LA and posted on Twitter, but also this fascinating webcast.
For 2018, SpaceX has even bigger plans. The company wants to launch the first Falcon Heavy Rocket in January. What’s in the rocket? A cherry red Tesla Roadster, just as Elon Musk said he’d do a while ago. You can say anything about the man, but the dude got style! How many years before he drives a cherry red Tesla on the not-so-cherry red Mars, we wonder?
