While you were chillin’ at the pool this weekend, SpaceX was sending two rockets to space. #todaymagic
This weekend, Elon Musk showed once more why he’s one of the best things that happened this decade. His company, SpaceX, wrote history once more by launching not one, but two rockets in 48 hours. Thanks to an initial delay, the feat was possible. Friday, BulgariaSat-1 launched from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Two days later, a shipment of 10 satellites from Iridium went into space from the Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.
These consecutive launches showcased once more the advantages of reusable rocket technology. So far, SpaceX has reused a rocket booster three times, the first time being in March, when Falcon 9 delivered a SES-10 communications satellite.
Elon Musk proudly tweeted during the launch, keeping everybody informed about the tech used and the weather conditions:
Launch at 1:25 delivering 10 satellites for Iridium. Droneship repositioned due to extreme weather. Will be tight. https://t.co/6ZcSG29B74

New titanium grid fins worked even better than expected. Should be capable of an indefinite number of flights with no service.

This was an emotional launch for Bulgaria too. It marked the first time the country has ever launched a telecommunications satellite. For SpaceX, it won’t be the last. The company has more than 50 missions scheduled for this year and 2018.
