Disneyland’s latest theme park, Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge, opened its doors and the first day was a huge success. The highlight of the themed park was the most expensive item for sale, a custom built R-series droid that is the perfect replica of R2-D2.
You would expect this kind of event to generate crowds, but, luckily it turned out to be very well organized.
In order to avoid chaos and long waiting times for rides, as it was when Frozen Ever After premiered, Walt Disney World decided to require guests to obtain a reservation ahead of their visit.
The reservation system went live about a month before the opening day and all reservations for Galaxy’s Edge were made in a few hours. This managed to keep the waiting time for Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run under 45 minutes for the whole day.
With everything running smoothly on the opening day, all that was left for visitors was to spend their money on exclusive merchandise that you won’t be able to find anywhere else. Like a custom-built R-series droid that sells for a staggering $25,000!
We are not sure to what extent, but you can customize the replica of the R2-D2 using different paints and parts. You can choose to get it scruffy and used or brand new and shiny.
The droid is fully functional, including sounds and lights and is controlled by a remote.
If you do decide to go for a custom droid this would be delivered to you in about 90 days from the order date.
You can also purchase pre-built droids for a lot less, prices starting from $10, or custom built smaller ones for about $100. Going home with R2-D2 must be the coolest thing yet, even if it’s for $25.000.
