The ideal cup of coffee exists – a mug with caffeinated beverage that never goes cold and never burns your tongue. What is this sorcery, you might ask. There’s no witchcraft involved, believe us, just science. A Los-Angeles startup developed it last year and has already received the award for Best Invention of the year from TIME Magazine #objectmagic
Ember Ceramic Mug is the second product developed by the company, a more hygge version of the futuristic travel mug launched in 2016. This works in connection with a mobile app, as well. After registering, users can set several temperature presets for different beverages, not just coffee. The temperature can be set in Celsius or Fahrenheit. You can also customize the color of the LED that lights up during use.
The engineers that came up with the concept use microchip technology to heat up the beverages. For cooling, they just let the open lid do its job. On the travel mug, though, the team takes advantage of a heat-absorbing substance to reduce the temperature. To keep the ideal temperature until you’re done with the drink, Ember uses batteries and/or a charging coaster.
The mug launched on the website, where you can still buy it for $79.95. That said, the startup caught Starbucks’ eye and the coffee chain is now distributing the product in more than 4,600 of their locations. So far, Ember is available to buy only from U.S. and Canada stores.
What’s next? The company received patents to extend their range to beer steins, baby bottles and even plates. The latter, in particular, will be capable of detecting the current food temperature and adjust parts of it, as desired.
