One of the best news from PlayStation in recent memory is the return to game demos, which had almost gone extinct.
Sony announced that subscribers to the new PlayStation Plus Premium service will have access to time-limited game trials to see if they enjoyed titles before purchasing.
Now, Game Developer quotes anonymous sources and says that PlayStation Plus Premium game trials will be available for any game with a wholesale cost of at least $34. Basically, all upcoming AAA games on the PS5 will have demos.
And, even better, those demos will be at least two hours long.
For those concerned that small developers sometimes don’t have the bandwidth to create demos, Ethan Gach from Kotaku says that the PlayStation Store team will develop game trials, not the original developers themselves, so that burden won’t exist.
However, PlayStation Plus Premium game trials will only be available for upcoming games, not previously released titles, and they won’t be available for PlayStation VR.
Either way, game demos coming back is a thing to be celebrated, especially since disasters like Cyberpunk 2077l have burned people and made them shy from preordering.
The new PlayStation Plus subscription tiers, including the $18 per month Premium, will be available this June (13th in the US, the 22nd in Europe).
