Many of us have mourned the loss of Vine and hoped to see it spring back to life sometime soon. It looks like those hopes were not in vain, at long last: Vine co-creator Dom Hofmann confirmed back in November 2018 that he was working on a video-looping app, dubbed Byte, and promised to tell us more this spring.

He has kept his word because, according to the app’s Twitter, Hoffman’s team has sent out 100 invitations to a closed beta test, with a promise to expand on that number soon.

Hofmann didn’t release a lot of details about Byte but he did include a short video in one of his tweets that showed how the app’s interface will look like.

The Byte beta we’ve been running with friends and family “feels” exactly like the Vine Friends and Family beta, down to the weird but appealing randomness of the videos. That’ll change as we expand, but it’s a pretty good sign,” he went on to say.

Hofmann didn’t give any hints yet as to when the app might go live, but hopefully it will all go smooth so we can get a quick release because let’s face it: we probably watched those YouTube Vine videos to the point where we know them by heart already.
