Why Tho? LinkedIn Adds Voice Messaging

It’s no secret that social networks always test new features but, even in the experimental land, this Linkedin feature is truly bizarre. The company is adding voice messages as a functionality, letting iOS and Android app users to send and receive voice recordings.

Just like on Facebook Messenger and other apps, you’ll be able to simply press and record a message whenever you don’t have time to type, pretty convenient, I’ll give them that. In the official announcement, Linkedin points out that this can also be a way to “better express yourself” and “build a personal connection.”

What makes the move an awkward one is the fact that, while a professional contacts network, the Linkedin quality of engagement is quite abysmal. For a platform known for pushy or clueless recruiters and various gurus who mass message any contact, adding the ability to send voice messages doesn’t sound particularly appealing.

Right now, Linkedin voice messaging is available only for the mobile apps but the feature will roll out on the web as well in the near future.
