Xiaomi’s director of product management just teased on Twitter the new design of its mid-range smartphones, the Redmi series. Unlike its predecessors, Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus will be gorgeous, displaying the almost bezel-less design seen all throughout this year on flagships #mobilemagic
In a couple of days, Xiaomi will announce in China Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus. Donovan Sung from Xiaomi showed off the new design of the mobile devices on Twitter, revealing a 18:9 aspect ratio and slim bezels, a design feature noticed usually on premium phones like LG G6, Galaxy S8, Oppo R11 and the likes.

That makes this week’s announcement so exciting. The Redmi phones are famous for offering good specs at a cheap price, the reason why they’ve quickly become favorites in India. If Xiaomi manages to keep the prices low while offering decent hardware and goo software with a design that follows the latest trends, Redmi 5 and its Plus brother could become instant hits.
To get an idea of the prices we’re talking about, let’s look at the ones for Redmi 4, for example. The smartphone is selling for 6,999 rupees in India, which is roughly $109!! Yeah, we can’t believe it either. What do you get for one hundred bucks? A 5-inch 720p display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 processor, a 13-megapixel camera, fingerprint recognition and a 4,100mAh battery.
Amazing, right?
