We all know that Yubico is one of the best companies out there when it comes to security keys. Now, it has decided that it will expand its range and release a YubiKey that will work for iPhones and iPads as well.
The YubiKey Lightning, as it has been dubbed, works with USB-C and Lightning connectors, so you can use the key to authenticate yourself to both a desktop and a mobile device. It supports authentication for FIDO2/WebAuthn and U2F services and is manufactured in the USA and Sweden.
The electronics of the keys are sealed hermetically, which gives the keys both strength and durability so it can fit any type of style the users would prefer to carry it around in (key ring, wallet, etc.).
“Yubico’s goal is to make strong, simple authentication truly ubiquitous, across all services, devices, and operating systems […] we are excited to introduce the addition of NFC to our Security Key Series, and reveal our YubiKey for Lightning. These two products deliver on our mission to enable a passwordless future for all.”
Stina Ehrensvard, Yubico CEO and Founder
At the moment the YubiKey for Lightning is not available for purchase just yet, but the company took advantage of CES to also unveil their Security Key NFC, which uses NFC to connect to devices.
It’s compatible with a number of websites and applications, among which we can count Microsoft, Google and Twitter.
The Security Key NFC is already up for sale, for just $27.
