If you thought an AI (artificial intelligence) was good just at playing games, altering photos and designing clothes, you are in for a surprise. Recently, a computer algorithm proved that it could help an artist compose and produce an entire music album #machinemagic
The folks from Amper and Taryn Southern came together to launch the first music album created by an AI. As you can imagine, the singer had a big contribution, in that it wrote the lyrics and interpreted the song. But all the rest, the instrumentation and production work, was the AI’s doing. Amper’s music composition software “listened” to Taryn’s vision and indications and made it happen.
The singer described the music style she was going for and the rhythm sought and the software delivered sooner than expected. Unlike a human team, the artificial intelligence works non-stop, doesn’t get tired or frustrated, so it’s bound to finish the project sooner. In this case, the album I AM AI is about to be commercially released, as the first song hit iTunes and YouTube.
Break Free (as well as the other songs from the pop album) was generated by AI… for the most part. The chords and video art you can see below were made by Amper’s software:
Unlike other musical experiments made with AI, this one sounds like something we could listen to without cringing. What do you think?
