OnePlus 5 was revealed yesterday. After months of teasers, its design hadn’t left anything to the imagination but the specs took most of us by surprise. Still, with the new upgrades, OnePlus had to increase the costs, risking to alienate customers. Frankly, with a starting $479 price, we weren’t sure how many of them would turn up and buy the newest smartphone. Today, Carl Pei, one of the founders of OnePlus, put our worries at rest:

The “early drop” strategy worked. After users got wind of the online selling mechanism for OnePlus 5, as well as its presence in a couple of stores, they jumped at the opportunity to grab a unit. Overnight, OnePlus 5 became the fastest-selling device the Chinese manufacturer ever launched.
Remember – this is not the official sale date. On June 27, devices are bound to fly off the shelves. With Snapdragon 835 chipset on board, dual-camera system, interesting software features and more, it’s not hard to see why.
