High speed cameras for professionals can cost thousands of dollars; the Photron cameras can get to $100.000/piece, for example. To get a good one for much less is a miracle these days or… a Kickstarter Christmas surprise. Chronos 1.4, a professional high speed camera, is now crowdfunding for $2749 #videomagic
Chronos 1.4 is an easy-to-use professional camera that delivers 1.4 gigapixel-per-second throughput, with 1280×1024 footage at 1,057fps or up to 21,600fps at minimum resolution (640×96). You’ll get a slow-motion video 6 times slower than the one you can take with an iPhone. See more specs here.
Operating the camera is pretty straightforward – there’s a capacitive touchscreen. You’ll also see a little wheel from where you can control playback video. It moves 24 frames/turn or 960 when clicked in for fast seeking. The video recorded remains as a RAW in RAM where you’ll be able to adjust color matrix, white balance and more once a free software update is released.
As for lenses, the camera supports all C Mount and CS mount lenses: “Virtually any lens type can be used with an appropriate adapter, including Nikon F, Canon EF, and PL Mount.” Chronos 1.4 uses Nikon EN-EL4A batteries; one battery lasts about 1.75 hours of continuous recording.
Chronos 1.4 is available on Kickstarter for $2.749 which they say it’s “about 1/10th the price [of similar cameras], with more features, smaller size, and far better usability..”
